AudioNodes has a feature to render your project into a formatted audio file, a sort of an export, so to speak. This will, for the most part, produce the same result you get while you do a playback from the top of AudioNodes (also called “live playback”).
How to Export
- Menu in the top left corner
- Choose Project
- Choose Export
- Step through the export dialog
The next steps will depend on whether you are using the web app or the desktop app, but you’ll need to save to a file either way. Once the progress finishes, the saved file will contain the rendered audio.
What’s Included
In most cases, the rendered audio is practically identical to what you hear when you press play in AudioNodes:
So that means:
… and so on, i.e. typically Nodes that somehow appear on the Timeline, will behave the same during rendering, and produce an identical result.
What’s Not Included
By extension, the above also means that Nodes tied to a live input, such as the:
… and so on, will not be present in the rendered audio. To get these in, you have to record them:
- For the MIDI Keyboard Node, you can connect it to a Piano Roll Node, and record from inside the Piano Roll Node’s editor
- For recording audio, you have an option to do so when opening an audio file in any of the supported Nodes, such as the Audio File Node
Differences in Rendering
It’s uncommon, but easily possible to end up with an audibly different result in the rendered output, than what you hear during live playback.
The most typical cause for this is using a different sample rate during rendering than your default system sample rate (which AudioNodes uses for live playback). A patch that behaves differently with a different sample rate will, by extension, sound different during rendering.
The Project Info Node can be useful for reading the actual working sample rate and avoiding this issue.
Render Configuration
By default, AudioNodes renders to a lossless WAV file with a 48 kHz sample rate, and 2 channels (stereo). AudioNodes HD gives you an option to customize these settings to your liking, so make sure to check it out.
